Wonderland – Nottingham Playhouse 9th – 24th February 2018
Beth Steel’s coalmining play is presented by the Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company and runs from 9th – 24th February 2018. Tickets range from £8.50 to £37.50.
The story is based in Nottinghamshire in the run up to the 1984-85 miners strike, the main characters being two new 16 year old mining recruits, a veteran miner, an American CEO in London, a Tory MP uneasy with his party’s stance on the coal-industry and a eccentric undercover dandy sent in to break the strike. Wonderland was written by Beth Steel, the daughter of a Nottinghamshire Miner. Described as a gripping 360 degree look at the events leading up to the 1984-85 strike.
Prior to the performance on Monday 12th February 2018, Bob Bradley, Retired Senior Colliery Surveyor, will give a talk on the historical background to the play including first hand stories, antidotes and memories from his forty years working in the local coalmining industry. The talk takes place from 6.15pm – 7pm.
