Remembering Bestwood Colliery – 50 years on

To commemorate the closure of Bestwood Colliery 50 years ago a special free event is taking place at the preserved Bestwood Winding Engine House on Saturday, 1st July 2017 (10.30 am – 3pm).  The programme for the day will include:

  • An exhibition of old photographs of the colliery and some of its workforce
  • Guided Tours of the preserved Winding Engine House
  • Time Line booklets including details of the history of the colliery, including a full list of fatalities.
  • Recital by the Bestwood Male Voice Choir.
  • Illustrated Talk – Coalmining in the Leen Valley by David Amos at 2 pm.
  • Refreshments can be purchased at the Dynamo House
